HOW TO MAKE  IT WORK BEST FOR YOU

  • Use the best insulated esky possible – polystyrene gives poor results.

  • Leave the dry ice wrapped in paper and in 1 piece. (will not last as long if you break it up)

  • Store in well saturated esky with your wet ice. (storing dry ice in freezer wont keep it longer

  • You will get best results if you use more than 1 esky

  • Place dry ice in bottom of esky, pack frozen food on top and around dry ice and then cover with wet ice

  • Fruit, salad, vegetables, milk, etc are best when kept in a second esky with party or block ice

SAFETY WHEN HANDLING DRY ICE

  • Dry ice is solid carbon dioxide and has a temperature of -78 degrees celcius
  • Always use gloves or paper to handle dry ice as it will stick to bare skin
  • Always handle and store dry ice in well ventilated areas. C02 is heavier than air and if allowed to accumulate in poorly ventilated areas such as cars or boat holds it will displace oxygen and could lead to asphyxiation
  • Always leave the car window down even if you are carrying dry ice in the boot
  • Dry ice should not be placed in airtight containers as it expands to a gas and could explode
  • Use dry ice in large punch bowls only, if used in drinks it will stick to mouth

TIPS ON USING DRY ICE

  • When storing food with dry ice ensure that all food is securely wrapped in freezer bags with twist ties or in plastic containers with airtight lids. The reason is that dry ice will turn back into gas and this gas will taint the taste of any foods that are left exposed
  • Avoid breathing in the fumes of dry ice, whilst not poisonous in small quantities, it will leave a nasty taste and causes dizziness
  • Any goods touching dry ice will freeze
  • Dry ice should be left wrapped in paper as supplied by Arctic Ice Works
  • The life of the dry ice may be enhanced by putting wet ice in the esky. The dry ice will keep the party ice frozen for longer. This will also keep the drinks cold without freezing
  • DO NOT STORE dry ice in your freezer. Your freezer will turn itself off because the dry ice will activate the thermostat. You will have little or no dry ice left in the morning.
